Peter Mumford

Born in London, Peter trained at the Central School of Art. He has created lighting designs for opera houses, dance companies and theatres across the globe, including ENO, Mariinsky, Met, ROH, RSC, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Opera North, National Theatre and in the West End and on Broadway.

Recent engagements: Orfeo ed Eurydice (Staatsoper Hannover), Rock 'n' Roll (Hampstead Theatre), Drop The Dead Donkey (UK Tour), 4000 Miles (Chichester Festival Theatre), Pearl Fishers & Requiem (Opera North), The Ferryman, The Children, Escaped Alone (Royal Court) Manon Lescaut (Met), Stepping Out (West End), Carmen (The Royal Ballet/Carlos Acosta), Ghosts (Almeida/West End/BAM), 42nd Street (West End) and La Damnation de Faust (ENO/Palermo/Vlaamse Opera/Staatsoper Berlin).

Peter received Olivier Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Dance and Lighting for The Bacchai (NT). He is also a recipient of the Knight of Illumination Award 2010 and most recently the Helpmann and Green Room Awards for Best Lighting Design for King Kong (Global Creatures/Australia). In 2019 Peter was nominated for two Tony Awards for his lighting designs of The Ferryman and King Kong.
